Basic marinara sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 tbps olive oil
  • 1 diced medium yellow onion
  • 3 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 28oz can whole peeled tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano

Instructions

  • Step 1

    Heat oil in large saucepan over medium heat and add onion and cook until soft
  • Step 2

    Add garlic and cook another minute or so - just until fragrant
  • Step 3

    Add tomatoes, squishing each one with your hand to break it up as you add
  • Step 4

    Next put in tomato paste, balsamic vinegar, red pepper, sugar and oregano
  • Step 5

    Stir really well, combining everything
  • Step 6

    Bring to a boil
  • Step 7

    Reduce heat and let simmer for 30 minutes
