Basic marinara sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 tbps olive oil
  • 1 diced medium yellow onion
  • 3 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 28oz can whole peeled tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in large saucepan over medium heat and add onion and cook until soft
  2. Add garlic and cook another minute or so - just until fragrant
  3. Add tomatoes, squishing each one with your hand to break it up as you add
  4. Next put in tomato paste, balsamic vinegar, red pepper, sugar and oregano
  5. Stir really well, combining everything
  6. Bring to a boil
  7. Reduce heat and let simmer for 30 minutes
